A volunteer opportunity opened up to design a mural and paint it for a local school Fernbank Elementary

School. I was able to select a highly visible end of a hall that is in view of the main entrance of the school, so I knew everyone would see whatever I would design, adding more pressure to make something special for the students and teachers there to enjoy. Another feature was to the right of this wall, doors leading out to the school garden area. So that became my theme, and it grew from there, adding veggies grown in the garden and adding interesting colors that pop plus the school garden logo. I used negative space and base wall color to allow for the viewer to fill in the shape themselves and have it be a conversation starter like "hey why is that tomato over there white?" I also wanted the painting to be part of the surrounding walls not just it's own stand alone piece of art.
